How to get Toad

You may think that you can't get Toad but you can. Here is how. Beat Classic mode with any character and any mode. Then at the credits hit all the targets. After that go to adventure mode and select any character again you can select any mode. Beat the game in adventure after doing the first steps and after that it will say new challenger approaching.
